Water Heater Blew up

At 5am, I walked into Akemi's room and stepped on something wet. Of course the first thing Jonathan thinks of, is that Dior went pee pee by the door way. I thought it was odd since Dior is house trained and only goes on his wee wee pads. So I grab a towel and dab the floor and smelled it. It didn't smell like pee.

As I turned around, the bubble on the wall caught my eye. 'That's odd, I didn't think that was there before.' I opened the water heater closet and saw that my water heater has been leaking!!The wooden floor below it was soaked and the carpet surrounding the closet was soaked also.

In a panic, I turned the temp down and the gas off. I started to grab towels to soak up all the water. Then I saw that there was a valve. I ran outside and grab the garden hose and plug the hose into the valve and channeled it to the bathtub. All of this at 5am.

Akemi is 3 months old!

Our baby girl is growing up. I can't believe she's already 3 months old! She's cooing, smiling, laughing, and even starting to sit up a little more. She's 13lbs 9.5 ounces and 24.5 inches long. The doctor was pretty surprised at how long she is. Maybe she might be a future basketball player afterall. =D Though the doctor did mention that her height growth will slow down.

Reflecting back on the 3 months, it was a whirlwind! I was so insecure about everything. Now, I think I'm getting the hang of things. Being a mom is a very humbling experience, but like everything, with enough practice, my self confidence grows.

Hopefully we'll go get some 3 months pictures at Babies R Us this weekend.

Oh no!

Our pediatrician recommended that we introduce the bottle to Akemi when she was 2 weeks old. We successfully introduced the bottle to her and she took to it well. We were pretty good about giving her breastmilk once a day through a bottle for a month but this past few weeks, we've been only giving her the bottle once a week. However, we didn't realize that we should keep giving her a bottle once a day from then onwards.

So guess what happened! Akemi does not like the bottle anymore. 'sigh'. Jonathan's mom tried to give her the bottle yesterday and she only took 1.5 ounces. I thought maybe she was just tired from being outside the day before and wasn't up to drinking from the bottle, so I ignored the signs. Then today, Jonathan tried again and she went ballistic! She was screaming at the top of her lungs! We knew she was hungry since when I try to feed her, she started to nurse. We waited a little while and gave her the bottle again when she's half asleep.

I just hope our persistence will pay off. We're going to give her the bottle once a day again.

Other news, Jonathan will be in Shanghai for 14 days starting at the end of May till the 1st week of June. So I'm on my own when I go back to work. It'll be interesting how I juggle getting ready for work and dropping off Akemi at day care by myself. I just hope Jonathan isn't gone too long.

Being Green

In celebration of Earth day, Akemi and I decide that it's never too late to be green. We decided to walk to Trader Joes and brought our own shopping bags. It was a good 4 blocks there, but it was great exercise and we got some sun.

I carried Akemi in the Bjorn and push her snap-n-go stroller. We put all of our grocery in the stroller and walked back. Since the stroller can only hold up to 5lbs of food, we couldn't buy too much. We'll probably walk there more often. =D

Just the two of us

Akemi and I spent our first night together without Jonathan. We luckily had some visitors (Kevin, Andrea, and Sarah) who were sweet to bring us some yummy lasagna and salad. I think Akemi missed her daddy since she woke up more often than usual.

By 7am, I was pleading for her to go back to sleep but she was WIDE awake. Thankfully Olivia came to save the day and I had a 1hour nap in the morning.

Last night was a good practice for me. Jonathan will be heading off to another business trip next week for two days and then two long weeks at the end of May to China. Akemi and I will be spending quality time together! =D

I'll have to start practicing on how to give her a bath by myself. =)

Chicago Trip

This past weekend, Akemi went on her first plane ride. We flew to Chicago to visit my brother and his kids. Akemi was great on the flight. One passenger commented, "You have the quietest baby." She slept majority of the way there.

It was a very interesting experience to change her diaper in the airplane. Right when I walked into the bathroom, we hit turbulence and Akemi started crying in the bathroom. Jonathan was knocking on the door, "Are you guys ok in there?". Luckily on the flight back home, the bathrooms had a changing table. We also got to fly 1st class on the way home and had an opportunity to relax in the executive lounge.
Akemi fell asleep on the leather couches at the lounge.
Akemi had a blast hanging out with her young cousins (Aliz (8 mos.), Zita (2 yrs)).

New discovery

Akemi has recently discovered her mouth. She's been putting her right hand in mouth all the time. I wonder if that means she'll be right-handed?

Good news!

We found out today that our daycare can take Akemi at the end of May! Yay!

I had Jonathan called the lady and he was able to negotiate! I'm so proud of Jonathan. He made sure his little girl is taken care of!

Other news, Akemi has already grown out of the Carter 3 months clothes! Can you believe it? I think she's over 12lbs already. I have to go return the stuff I already bought. =)

Poop Cleaner

I am the official 'poop cleaner'. The last few weeks I'm finding myself wiping Akemi's and Dior's butt with diaper wipes to get their poop off. It's really odd but Akemi has been getting poop all over her back. Jonathan and I can't figure out why the diaper leaks through the top.

We are pretty good at changing her diaper right away. I always change her before feedings and check afterwards. When we hear her go #2, we change her diaper right away and try to make sure not to have her lay down ...we thought if she's horizontal, the poop leaks out so we try to keep her sitting up.

Any case, poor Dior has been getting diarrhea so that has been a blast (sense my sarcasm?). I caught him rubbing his butt on the floor and that freaked me out. I don't want those germs on my floor. So now, I'm wiping his butt whenever we get back from walks.

I am the official 'Butt wiper'. That sounds kinda weird...but any case, I never thought I'll be cleaning my dog's butt too!
